Online registration for the 2019 rendition of P2P is open for you early-birds who want to put a commitment on the calendar and train toward it.

Watch this space for more details.

Here's some basic info:

  1. P2P is a fun ride, not a race. It's a hard ride, but it's not a race.
  2. We will have the same four courses we had in 2018: the Idiot, the Weasel, the Weenie and the Granny. Somethign for everyone!
  3. P2P starts at the Boathouse in Jensen Point Park on Vashon Island’s Burton Peninsula (8900 SW Harbor Drive, Vashon, WA 98070) at 7:30 AM on Saturday, Spetember 14th, 2019. Here’s a link to a map to the P2P start/finish area.
  4. If you don't live here, you'll need to take a ferry to get here. The times listed below are subject to change.
    • From Seattle, take the Fauntleroy route from West Seattle. Schedule.  5:10 AM, 6:05 (recommended), 6:45
    • From Tacoma, come over to Tahlequah from Point Defiance. Schedule.  5:55 AM (recommended), 6:45
    • From Kitsap, take the Southworth boat. Schedule. 5:55, (recommended) 6:50
  5. We will have shuttle service from and to the north end ferry dock again on the morning of the event and then again in the afternoon. We'll be working on how to expand that service to cover more ferries and the south end ferry dock (from Tacoma) as well. You can make a reservation by emailing us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  6. There will be camping available on the Island Friday night. Again, to let us know you are interested, send us an email. There are Airbnb on Vashon too.
  7. Parking is available on the shoulder on the road leading to the venue. Please, please park considerately; we need the neighbors’ support for this event to continue. You can also park other places nearby and just ride a short distance to the start area.
  8. Check-in for pre-registered riders, as well as walk-up registration will be from about 6:30 AM until about 9:30 AM at the Jensen Point Boathouse – home of the Vashon Island Rowing Club, producers of P2P.
  9. We figure the Island can stand about 500 riders in this event, so that's the limit we're setting at this point.
  10. You'll be able to get extra tickets to our famous barbecue for family and friends who come to support you.
  11. We have cool P2P hats now. Go to the Buy Stuff/Doate page for details.
  12. At about 7:30 AM we start sending riders onto the courses in groups of 3 or 4 every 30 seconds or so to minimize congestion on the roads and at the early checkpoints. We’ll start Idiots first, so they have a chance to get back while the barbecue is open (1:00 – 6:00). Remember, this is a fun ride, not a race!
  13. Checkpoint opening and closing times will be posted at each checkpoint.
  14. You can switch courses and skip hills if you want, but keep those checkpoint opening and closing times in mind.
  15. There are clothing drops along the way. We bring your clothes back to the finish for you.
  16. There is food and water at each of the 18 checkpoints and at the Sandwich Stop in town (open 9:45 AM to 2:30 PM).
  17. Please use the restrooms along the course, not the side of the road. Checkpoints will be able to tell you where the next one is.
  18. Back at the finish:
    1. Get your picture on the podium.
    2. Enjoy the barbecue (1:00 PM – 6:00 PM).
    3. Get a local beer and stand in Quartermaster Harbor (where we row!)
    4. Pick up your free P2P  t-shirt at the P2P merchandise tent
    5. Pick up your pre-paid 2019 P2P Jersey, also at the merchandise tent.
    6. Buy a P2P hat at the P2P tent.
    7. Check out the Passport to Pain rowing shell on display – purchased with proceeds from past P2Ps.
    8. Treat yourself to a massage!

Thanks again for your interest in this unique event! We hope you have a great time!

FRIENDLY ADVICE

  • Pace yourself – really! This is not a race or timed ride. There are no winners or prizes.  In fact, if you’re the first one back you may find yourself working the barbecue until more riders show up.

  • Descend hills slowly! Aside from the main highway, which got a new surface in 2018, most of our roads are in worse shape every year: potholes, gravel, broken pavement, lumpy patch-jobs – you get the picture.

  • Stay to the right! Narrow roads with riders and cars coming the other way! You’ll think you’re on some one-lane roads – you’re not!  Every road in every P2P course is 2-way!!

  • Please don’t ride as a peloton. Riders start over time in groups of 3 or 4 to respect others using Vashon roads (cars, horses, walkers, tractors, deer, etc.)

  • Ride the hills in order. Early checkpoints close early; late checkpoints don’t open until later.

  • Bring your phone!

  • Please pay attention to where the restrooms are along the course (there will be signs) and plan accordingly. We've had reports of residents being ... surprised by some P2P riders standing on the side of the road. This is bad for our relations with our neighbors, so please plan ahead.
