P2P Basics

Passport2Pain is known for relentless, quad-popping hills, amusing-bordering-on-weird checkpoints, and a feeling of camaraderie that comes from sharing a unique experience that connects you with fellow riders throughout the day.

  • P2P is a fun ride, but it's not a race. Riders start in small groups to minimize annoying our neighbors on the roads. Racer-types are strongly encouraged to chill; P2P is not about close passing and getting there first.

  • We offer four courses of increasing difficulty:  The Tourist, The Weenie, The Weasel, and The Idiot. 12 to 80 miles; 800 to 10,000 feet of vertical. Something for everyone! You are welcome to adjust your ambitions as the day unfolds; there are plenty of shortcuts to the P2P Barbecue.
  • There are checkpoints every few miles where you get your Passport stamped, pick up some food and water, and enjoy the festivities and silliness that our checkpoint volunteers bring to the party.

  • We'll have our usual big barbecue at the end of the ride from 1:00 to about 5:30, where people recuperate, hang out, and trade tales of suffering. It's a really nice way to end the day.

  • We will have shuttle service from (and back to) the north end ferry dock. We're hoping to meet more than one boat and offer service to the south end dock.

  • We are also looking at options for riders to spend the night on Vashon the night before the ride. There are numerous B&Bs and a hotel if you want to invest in more sleep Friday night. Official campsites on Vashon are geared toward kayaks, so we are scouting unofficial locations, like back yards, for in-tents people. If you have friends on Vashon, invite yourself over. If you are an Islander willing to host a rider or two in your house, let us know.

  • We have clothing drops at the start and at checkpoints along all the courses. We bring your clothes back to the finish for you.

  • There are toilets at several of the checkpoints and at various locations between checkpoints. These are marked on maps at every checkpoint.

  • The fee is $100, or half that for the Tourist course. Your fee includes the food & beverages at the checkpoints and the Sandwich Stop, and the barbecue & beverages at the finish – and it helps support the Vashon Island Rowing Club, which is the main part of our motivation for putting this on.

  • Since ordering the right amount of food for checkpoints and the Barbecue keeps us awake at night, we really appreciate early registrations. Please be one of those folks.
